UNESCO embarks upon a new initiative on earth science education for all of Africa, based on its conviction of the importance of the earth sciences for the equitable and sustainable development of the continent.

A series of regional workshops between late 2009 and early 2010 were organized, by UNESCO and partners, to understand the existing situation and scope the new initiative.

This synthesis presents a summary of the observations and recommendations posed.

Attend the Launch Conference : October 28-29, 2010, UNESCO, Paris

The Launch Conference will be a highly visible event to convince new participants to the Initiative of the relevance of earth sciences for sustainable development, and to focus on improving the situation in African geo education.

It is open to relevant experts and key international stakeholders in the field of Earth Science Education in Africa and will take place at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France.

This event will take use the recommendations from the workshops as a basis for discussion and launch an action plan. It provides an important opportunity to provide input on the activities of the Initiative.
